Camila Mendes Admits to Picking Her Skin "Until It Bleeds" When She Has Acne

Sometimes, beauty is pain.
Just ask Camila Mendes, who recently shared insight into her skincare routine and why every so often she goes to extreme measures to get rid of acne breakouts.
"Whenever I have a blemish, I'll destroy it and pick at it until it bleeds," she told Allure in an interview published April 26. "and then it becomes a wound that eventually scars, so hyperpigmentation is one of my biggest ongoing concerns."
And while the Riverdale actress admitted to unintentionally injuring her face, she also noted that she's a lot more aware of how to treat and take care of her skin.
"Before Riverdale, I wasn't someone who wore a lot of makeup or had an extensive skin-care routine," she continued. "But when I started spending hours and hours wearing heavy makeup on set, I saw that my skin was suffering and knew I needed to do more for myself."
So, what exactly does Camila's routine consist of? Well, she's a minimalist "at heart," as she swears by these four staples: a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and sunscreen.
Occasionally, she added, she'll apply eye masks, face masks, a spot treatment and use a facial roller.
But just because she's found a regimen that works for her doesn't mean it's a cure-all.
"There is no 'one size fits all' in skin care," the 28-year-old noted. "Pay attention to how your skin responds to each product you try, and curate a routine that's specific to your own needs."
Camila's openness about her beauty journey is just one aspect of how she's evolving. Last September, she explained why she's more than ready to close her Riverdale chapter.
"There's so much more I want to experience, there's still so much more I want to achieve, and I get a small window to do that between seasons," Camila told InStyle at the time. "I want to have other things under my belt. I don't want it to just be Riverdale."
However, Camila clarified that she'll always be grateful for portraying the iconic Veronica Lodge on the hit television series.
"Everyone's always like, yeah, 'Free the Riverdale actors' or whatever, but I think ultimately, we're all going to be sad when it's over," she shared. "Any sort of creative artist seeks new challenges, and there's a point in time when something ceases to be challenging."
Soon, the star's Riverdale chapter will come to an end. The CW series is currently airing its seventh and final season.
