'American Idol': Former 'Bachelor' Juan Pablo Galavis makes surprise cameo for daughter's audition

After an emotional previous episode, Sunday night's "American Idol" was one for Gen Z.
Episode 5 showcased a lineup of gifted teens to show us that, indeed, children are our future. Some of them, anyway.
After a couple of golden ticket-earning performances, 14-year-old student Camilla Galavis stepped out in front of the judges for a chance at Hollywood. However, her potential star power was overshadowed by an appearance by her dad, ABC alum Juan Pablo Galavis.
Though he's now a "manager in the social media industry," as Camilla explained to Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, her dad was previously on "The Bachelor.
Perry clarified: "The TV show? An ABC?"
Yes, Ms. Perry – the one that aired 10 years ago, in which a then 32-year-old Juan Pablo led a controversial season that left some seriously disillusioned women in his wake. (Within the year, he and his finalist Nikki Ferrell called it quits.) Now, cue the "Bachelor" promotion with a cut back to archival footage from Juan Pablo's Season 18, which aired in 2014.
"You’re trying to throw her in this lion's den?" Perry accused the former bachelor. "Not really," he replied, placing the blame squarely on the high school freshman's shoulders.
"I don’t know if you're old enough," he recalled telling Camilla last year. But apparently, this was her time to give stardom a shot.

Former 'Bachelor' daughter, Camilla Galavis, gives lackluster performance
As her beaming dad shared a bench with the pianist, Camilla sang "Rabia" by fellow Venezuelan artist Joaquina. Her performance didn't hit any particularly impressive notes or show off any breathtaking runs, as the best auditions do.
"The big high notes are still giving you a little bit of trouble," Bryan said in his feedback. "You're so young. I just don't know if it's ready yet." He also feared that "in this competition, I think you’re going to get swallowed up a little bit."
When it was time to vote, Perry did Bryan dirty by giving a "yes" after Richie's "no." Buckling under the pressure, Bryan changed his tune and issued Camilla a "yes."
"You’ve got a lot of work cut out for you," Perry said. No kidding.
"You barely made it in," Bryan added before the judges gave a lackluster "You're going to Hollywood."
Season 21's Jayna Elise gets second chance with unique rendition of 'The Climb'
Jayna Elise is back a year later and ready to "give it another shot."
The 22-year-old performer from Washington D.C. now sports a shorter 'do and got rid of a hat that she was hiding behind during her last go-around in Season 21.
More confident than ever, Jayna thanked Perry for her previous feedback, which helped her blossom into the singer she is today. Jayna launched into her unique rendition of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb," showing off a buttery voice and impressive range, sending the judges to their feet for a standing ovation.
"You have really grown in a short amount of time, vocally," Perry said. "And if you can use that kind of gear every time you sing, it's going to be a different type of competition for you this time."
She's going "back to Hollywood, stronger than ever," Richie declared.
Like last season, all three judges gave her their vote of confidence, sending her through to Hollywood Week.

Julia Gagnon's 'amazing' performance earns her the final platinum ticket
Twenty-one-year-old Julia Gagnon of Cumberland, Maine, said her biological mom – whom she only connected with a few years ago – "knows I can sing."
Well, that was an understatement because this college student can sing.
With a guttural voice emanating deep inside her, Julia belted "Ain't No Way" by Aretha Franklin. Her voice filled every inch of the room. Her falsetto raised goosebumps.
Singing Aretha Franklin was a risk – but one that paid off.
"There are just certain songs you don't sing because you can't touch the original," Richie said. "And you just not only made it your song but you made it just beyond. ... That was absolutely outstanding."
"You've got, I think, several soul singers that are inside of you," Perry said. "You could go very far. You could be top 10."
Unsurprisingly, Julia left with a golden ticket in hand. After the door closed behind her, however, the judges realized they'd made a mistake with their last audition of the season. The trio came back out, having changed their minds.
Instead, they presented a sobbing Julia with the third and final platinum ticket that sends her through to the second round of Hollywood Week.
"One of the most amazing performances we’ve ever seen," Richie said.
